GIB® New Manufacturing Facility

Tauriko, Tauranga

A new, state of the art facility for Winstone Wallboards, this $400 million project is now one of Australasia’s largest plasterboard manufacturing and distribution centres. Occupying a 12.8Ha corner site, the facility contains 67,400m² of building structures, including a 49,400m² main warehouse, 5,590m² breezeway, plant tower, gypsum storage, head office, and several ancillary buildings. More than two times larger than the previous Auckland site, this new build incorporates a waste recycling facility that allows gypsum to be recycled into new boards, helping the transition from a linear economy model to a more circular one. Recycling capabilities for water and waste are integrated, and there is a focus on energy efficiency with features like LED lighting and heat recovery systems.

Eclipse led a multidisciplinary team to design the base building and coordinate the integration of specialist production equipment manufactured in Canada and Europe. Working closely with local consultants, offshore suppliers and specialist contractors, the team successfully managed the concurrent installation of the plant tower and roller bed during construction, ensuring seamless integration, programme certainty and optimal operational performance. This new facility allows Winston Wallboards space for future development, and the capacity to innovate on new products and sustainable approaches to manufacturing.
